Gamebook Adventures 1: Assassin in Orlandes Review
Gamebook adventures: An Assassin in Orlandes (GA 1:AI) is a new adventure game released at Play store. As it name implies, player will be forced to do reading in about 90% part of the whole game. Some of you might call it more as a homework rather than a game, but wait. GA 1:AI was one of the best rated games on iOS platform. That is why i decided to give it a shot.
Basically GA 1:AI is a game that use Choose Your Own Adventure formula. However, this sentence is not enough to describe the whole gameplay and experience that i had with GA 1:AI. For those of you who’re asking, Orlandes is a mythical place filled with nobles, cannibals, and adventurers. The developer also include in dept level and polished story to make you entertained for hours.
If you’re not familiar with the Choose Your Own Adventure formula, let me explain it to you first. You will be presented with pages of story. At certain point in this tale, the game will ask you to make a decision that will determine the end of the story. For example, you can choose to run away from guard or fight. Make sure that you choose the right answer because i am pretty sure you want to read the true ending right?
The plot start with a character that currently having a good time drinking at local tavern. As he thinks about women that he love, a mysterious assassin appear and kill a noble in front of him. Within seconds, you’ve just become witness of a murder. In addition, the story also reveal that your character has a pretty good damn reason to pursue and kill the assassin!
When it comes to combat, GA 1: AI offer a RPG style system and statistics. There will be a special bar and numbers that represent character’s health, fitness, attack, and defense rating. What interesting is that all of these statistics are not determined by experience, which very common in RPG game, but with roll of a dice. Confuse? Well, if you already play Risk, i am pretty sure it won’t take too long for you to get accustomed to this game. Attacker will roll numbers of dice (depends on the attack rating) and defender will do similar thing with numbers of dice also determined by defence rating. If attacker’s number is higher than defender, then it’s a death blow. Otherwise, the defender will successfully dodge an attack. This will happen until one side dies.
Overall everything is nicely done in GA 1:AI. When i install this game for the first time, i spend almost one hour and a half with it and that is not make me stop. During last week, i’ve played several times but i am not manage to reach the ending yet. I really can’t wait for the final showdown where my character meet the bad guy and save the day. I can understand that most Android players don’t like to read much when they want to play a game. However, if you’re looking for a new and unique gameplay from an Android game, you’re definitely need to try GA 1: AI.
