Sonar for Android Review
Sonar for Android is an app that allow you to locate nearby friends. It might sounds like a mobile version of FourSquare, but this is something that completely different. Sonar was already available on iOS for a while. The fact that it is now available for Android mean that developer want to bring their service to wider range of customers. So, will Sonar for Android manage to deliver similar function to it’s original iOS version? Let’s find out the answer on my complete review below.
Being a social app doesn’t mean that Sonar offer their own social network system. Basically, Sonar is made to complete service from other social media website like Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare, and LikedIn. I can understand why developer decide to make Sonar this way. As you might already know, those four names are most frequently used social networks around the world right now. I am pretty sure that there are lot of users won’t be interested to make new account or move on to new platform in the mean time. This is why Sonar decide to be complement, rather than independent app. I am not saying that Sonar doesn’t has it’s own identity. It’s just they don’t target to establish their own system at the moment.
So, how does Sonar work? Well, since it is asking for your social network account, the app will pull out all friends data that you had. This is why Sonar is able to determine whether you have a friend that currently on location near your position. Aside from that, Sonar will also able to lead you into position of people that you might know. It is a very useful features when you want to know what are your friends doing around town.
Once you launch Sonar for the first time, it will start to determine your current location and come out with list of possible future friends. You can send short text messages to other users via messaging feature. It is also possible to use real name on your account. There is no need to worry about privacy since this feature will be enabled when already know a person very well. That is why Sonar is also a great Android app to make new friends.
If you manage to spot a location of nearby friends using Sonar, you can directly get direction to that spot using Google Map app. Since Sonar is also integrated to Facebook and Twitter, it is also possible for you to read your friend’s latest tweets or status. This is mean that you can surprise him by sending messages like “I found you” or “What you’re doing at Coffee Shop this late.”
Overall, Sonar is a simple app, but it really does what it suppose to do. You can find location of your friends right away. However, i must admit that it is nearly impossible for you to make new friends with this app. With this current version, Sonar doesn’t have enough ability to connect people. Users are unable to built in-depth profile or use anything to make them different than others. But like i said earlier, Sonar will become a great addition if you are a regular users of Facebook or Twitter.
