Current Caller ID Review
If you type “Caller ID” on Google Play store search bar, you will find more than hundreds result. However, all of them were unable to satisfy my need for decent Caller ID app. Some app are not to functional. Others were packed with amazing features, but the are not available for free. I need to reduce my budget on apps, so i decide to look for better alternative. Then, i was attracted to Current Caller ID. This app replaces WhitePages Caller ID since both of them were made by same developer.
Aside from display the Caller ID of anyone that currently make call into your number, the app also allow you to know such information like latest status on Facebook and Twitter’s mentions. Current Caller ID also able to present you with current weather info on caller’s location and local news. I am not sure why the developer decide to implement these two features, but they do work well at the moment.
For those of you who already use similar app like CallApp, Current Caller ID will look a lot more simple. It is unable to find specific business’s social page and queue them up as your friends. However, Current Caller ID offer every powerful features that you want from a Caller ID app. For example, when a telemarketer call my number (it seems like VoIP routing number masking technique is being used), Current Caller ID able to determine it as “Telemarketer.” If you’re looking for an extremely accurate Caller ID app, Current Caller ID is your best alternative.
What i really appreciate from Current Caller ID is the fact that it won’t replace your native Phone app. Instead of full interface window, Current Caller ID will appear as floating screen that you can resize and move around. This is mean that you can use it side by side with phone’s stock dialer app. Current Caller ID also posses the ability to display call statistics. There are few options to display it in different graphics. Not bring any huge impact in whole app experience, but i think it is pretty cool.
One thing that i miss from Current Caller ID is full integration to public information app like Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Google Maps, and other. For example, i already make a reservation on a restaurant. When they call me back in the afternoon, Current Caller ID can tell me the exact location and the name of the restaurant. However, if i want to know more detailed information about it, i should open Yelp or Google Maps.
Overall, Current Caller ID really does what it suppose to, display information of who’s calling you. However, i feel like the app is little bit naked right now, thanks to lacks of some essential features. I believe that there are still lot of room to grow. Developer might consider to add information about when is the last time i call a person, thumbnails map view of caller’s current location, and pop out function when you make a call.
But don’t take me wrong guys, Current Caller ID is still a great app, but i still prefer CallApp. Interested to give it a shot? Then you should point your Android browser here.
