Despite the fact that BlackBerry now struggling to maintain their popularity around the world, RIM still manage to dominate the cell phone market in the the largest South East Asia market, Indonesia. Latest statistics suggest that BlackBerry device manage to become the most popular handset in the country, take on Android and Windows Phone based device. However, this trend seems will change in the near future. At least based on the statement made by IDC.

Android Take on BlackBerry

According to IDC market analyst, Darwin Lie, the huge wave of Android arrival in Indonesia will soon change the trend of handset in the country. Slowly but sure, Android is start to gain more market share. It won’t be impossible for the OS to dethrone BlackBerry in three or six months. The fact that RIM decide to put the BB OS 10 release date on hold makes some of their fans decide to invest their money on latest Android handset like Galaxy S III or HTC One X. This makes a good momentum for Android to start take over mobile phone market in Indonesia.

IDC also said that the shipment of Android phones were increased up to 10%. This is happen due to high demand for touch screen handset on the last “Idul Fitri” holiday season. There are up to 7 millions Android handset with touch screen feature now scattered around Indonesia market. If you believe in numbers, IDC also have something else for you. They said BlackBerry has 6% of marginal fall during the second quarter. On the other hand, Android manage to gain popularity over RIM’s products. In fact, you will find more than 10 vendors that now offer Android based handsets as their flagship device.

Off course some big names still dominate the Android market in Indonesia. There are lot of customers were attracted and interested to take advantage from Galaxy S III special features like proximity sensor, S Voice, etc. It seems like it’s only a matter of time before Android really dominate the cellphone market in Indonesia.
