Vlingo Labs, Inject S Voice Engine on ‘Ur Android
Voice command is already become a popular feature in smartphone and tablet right now. It all start with Apple’s iPhone 4S and Siri. These duo are responsible to introduce the world that users can take actually “talk” to their device and “ask” it to do plenty of things. Since Siri was presented last year, voice command and personal digital assistant become one mandatory feature in smartphone and tablet.
Other big names like Microsoft and BlackBerry already follow Apple’s path by creating their own voice based digital assistant app to compete against Siri. However, they are also some innovative voice command app rise from third-party developer in the past few months. If you’re an Android enthusiast, pretty much like me, you will agree that Vlingo is one of the best third-party voice command app that ever released at Play Store. Probably that is the main reason why Samsung offer their proposal to use Vlingo’s engine on their next device. The result? Galaxy S III users now can enjoy the best of S Voice on their handset.
There are two different version of Vlingo. The original version that currently considered as the stable release is simply called as “Vlingo”, while the beta testers edition is dubbed as “Vlingo Labs”. I am will talk about the latest features that developers has put on Vlingo Labs.
Vlingo Labs is currently run perfectly. It does everything that I told to. However, Vlingo Labs only compatible with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich device at the moment. This is mean that only few users has direct access to Vlingo. Not to mention that you “have to” be in the United States to make this app to works. But after all, Vlingo is still considered as great competitor and alternative to Apple’s Siri. The good news is, Vlingo Labs still have lot of room to improve and that is what the developer team now working on.
Vlingo Labs is currently released on beta edition, but there is also an option where you can send feedback to developer. This way, they can acknowledge your problem and fix it, so we will have a better release in the near future. The moment you reading this article, i’ve been using Vlingo Labs to make call, send messages, setup new schedules, search around the web, and tell me today’s weather forecasts. It works pretty well for an early build app.
The developer team’s main goal is to make an voice command app that won’t require user to tap anything to enable “talk mode”. That is pretty awesome guys. Even Siri still ask user to tap on the mic button to start the conversation. While on the other side, Galaxy S III users can just say “Hey, Galaxy” to start their conversation with S Voice, an app that based on Vlingo. Same as S III, Vlingo Labs users only need to say “Hey Vlingo” to initiate the app. No fingers or touch required!
So far, i am quite satisfied with how’s Vlingo Labs work. Unlike any other voice command app, it is able to handle calendar function really well. As the developer was porting Siri’s engine into Android, but it’s not feel exactly the same! For those of you who miss Siri’s fluid response to Calendar tasls, you should try to install Vlingo Labs on your handset. Believe me, it really take your Android to the next level.
Remember, Vlingo Labs is the un-stable/beta version. As soon as developer manage to find a way to fix the bugs and errors, it will become the next up to date version of Vlingo (the stable edition of the app). If you interested, you should be able to download it in here.
