Nikon Coolpix S800, Android Based Camera Released on August 22nd

Android powered camera is not something new. I’ve already seen such device emerge in Barcelona when i attend MWC 2012 in Barcelona. Few months ago, Samsung also said to consider an Android camera for their next project. But since we doesn’t hear anything from them, i though it just nothing but a fake rumor. Suddenly, come from the middle of nowhere, Nikon manage to steal media’s attention with their own Android based camera!

Rumors said that the Japanese company already fill in a paperwork on Indonesian Communication Agency to release their first Android based camera in the South East Asia country. According to the report, this mysterious camera will be called as Nikon Coolpix S800. Like is said earlier, this will be the first device from the company that run on Android OS.

Although there’s no official announcement yet, Nikon’s Android camera is rumored to run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Some say that it will feature Google Play store. Is this mean that you can apply Instagram filters on your photo object immediately? Or maybe you want to play one or two stages of Angry Birds while waiting for good photography subjects to show up? Let me tell you guys, those sounds like pretty damn good ideas!

Other important details that might exists on Nikon Coolpix S800 are 25-250mm lens, 3.5″ OLED screen, GPS, and WiFI connectivity. Again, there are no official confirmation for all of these info, so you better don’t take them too seriously before heard anything from Nikon. About release date, Nikon Coolpix S800 was expected to make it’s first public appearance on August 22nd.

I know that some of you might thought this is not good enough. But let me tell you this. Nikon is a veteran business in camera industry. Android powered camera is relatively new and not too popular among professional and amateur photographer. That is why i have strong faith that Coolpix S800 is just part of their market test. If they manage to gain positive respond with this device, there’s a great chance that Nikon will come out with more powerful Android camera in the near future.
