Sony Xperia U vs Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus
Sony Xperia U and Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus are both considered as mid-range android smartphone. But don’t take it wrong guys. If you consider yourself as a light gamer and not too interested in doing heavy office task on your handheld, both of them should be more than enough to make you happy on the whole day.
Sony Xperia U was released for the first time at CES 2012 in Vegas. It was showcased as part of the NXT series, which also consist of other two Xperia phone like Xperia S and Xperia P. This device is currently running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but an Android 4.0 upgrade is already on it’s way right now.
On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus come out as the upgraded version of the previous Galaxy Ace, although it is still considered as mid-range android handset like it’s predecessor. This phone won’t win any award for super fast performance or crystal clear display, but it should be more than capable to help you with your daily tasks.

Display. Sony Xperia U sports 3.5 inch LED backlit touch screen that able to provide maximum 480 x 854 pixels resolution. It is also measured at 280ppi for the pixels density. On the other hand, Galaxy Ace Plus posses bigger 3.65″ HVGA touch screen, but only able to provide smaller 480 x 800 pixels resolution. It is also falls short in the density test. The handset only manage to score 158ppi.
CPU. Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus is currently powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 processors that clocked at 1.0GHz. On the other hand, Sony decide to implement a 1.0GHz Cortex A9 dual-core CPU inside the Xperia U chassis. There’s no doubt that Sony Xperia U will beat Galaxy Ace Plus, even HTC One V, in any benchmark or system performance test.
GPU. Sony Xperia U posses Mali 400 MP, while Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus got the Adreno 220 GPU. Both of them are great to display medium level of 3D graphics. As we already mentioned above, if you consider yourself as a light android gamer, it shouldn’t be a big problem for you.
Camera. Sony Xperia U and Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus are packed with 5.0 megapixels primary camera unit. Both of them also able to shoot 720p HD video without any problem at all. If you interested in video chat, these handsets are also capable to do that with the help from built-in front-facing camera.
OS. Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus is currently running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and it looks like that Samsung won’t provide any official Android 4.0 update for this device. On the other hand, Sony already made promise that all of their Xperia handset will running on Android Ice Cream Sandwich by the end of this year.
Battery and Storage. Sony Xperia U is manage to deliver up to 7 hours of usage on 3G mode. Thanks to the 1320mAh battery unit. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus is currently rely on the 1300mAh battery unit for it’s main power source, which also offer similar power management to Xperia U. In terms of memory, Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus is packed with 4GB internal memory that expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. On the other hand, Sony Xperia U also come out with similar internal data storage. Sadly, the company decide not to put microSD card slot on this one.
