Nabi 2 is an android 4.0 tablet that especially designed for kids. If you’re a parents and want to look for new tablet for your child, you can consider to buy this device. Please note that although Nabi 2 is considered as tablet for kids, it is come out with bad ass hardware specs. Deep under it’s surface, lies a quad-core Tegra 3 CPU. This tablet come out with a red rubber casing that made to sustain damage from light abuse from kids. Aside from that you should be able to get a nice grip on the tablet. One thing that we love from this chassis is that it’s removable. This is mean that if you think that it is dirty, you can detach the protective chassis and clean it a bit. Not to mention that you’re opt to wear other colors for your Nabi 2 tablet. Right on the top side, you should be able to find plenty of useful ports like USB, microSD card slot, microUB, microHMDI, miniHDMI, and 3.5mm audio jack. On the left hand side, you should be able to locate the volume rockers button. Still on the front side, you should be able to locate the 2.0 megapixels web camera. Since there’s no Google Apps loaded, Nabi 2 is come with pre-installed Skype. If you notice, the tablet also feature a small charging icon on the top right side. You should be able to tell if the tablet is fully charged in a quick glance.
Nabi 2 sports 7″ touch screen. For a $199 tablet, the quality is not that bad at all. It might not as great as Asus Transformer series, but surely better than any affordable ICS tablet from Ainol or Archos. Colors are vibrant and the brightness are delivered in the perfect amount. But, you must remember that this device doesn’t come out with Corning Gorilla glass coating, so it might take scratch and damage easily. If you have extra money, you might want to invest on extra protection. After spending hours with Nabi 2, we find out that the touch screen is very responsive. Even with the slightest touch, the tablet manage to give response that we want.
Thanks to the quad-core Tegra 3 processors, Nabi 2 is able to load some powerhouse game like Riptide GP, Jett Tailfin, and Nig Top THF. All of them running very smooth without any lag at all. Not to mention that they are executed in improved graphics mode. However, Nabi 2 is surely fall short when it comes to battery lifetime. We’re only manage to get six hours of usage on this tablet.
As we already mention above, Nabi doesn’t posses any rear shutter. But still, you can take advantage from it’s front-facing camera to do some nice web chat. You can do that via pre-installed Skype apps. There’s no surprising performance from this feature. Nabi 2 camera is doing exactly what you expect from a 2.0 megapixels web cam.
In terms of software, Nabi 2 running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It is also packed with additional feature like parental control, which allow parents to lock and allow any kind of apps that they want from a profile. Once the parent mode is activated, the tablet will feature stock interface from Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. You can sideload android apps from Amazon Appstore, but off course you can’t install any Google Apps like Gmail or Gtalk. But if you think that it is not a big deal, then Nabi 2 is a great android tablet for your kids.
