LG Thrill 4G Updated with Gingerbread, Will Ice Cream Sandwich Follow?

Great news for LG Thrill 4G owners, your handset gets updated! But before you get too “thrilled” let us inform you that this one won’t make your device run on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which is not surprising since LG Thrill 4G is naturally run on Android 2.2 Froyo. But somehow, AT&T decided to issued an Android 2.3 Gingerbread for this device. Will Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich follow later? we have no idea. In order to install this update to your phone, you must prepare an USB cable and desktop computer. That’s because this update is not available OTA. Just plug in your device to the computer and run the LG Mobile Support tool. It will tell you if the new update already available in the server. Press update/install button the process should begin immediately. Don’t remove your device during the process. It will normally take up to 5-10 minutes. Once it’s done your handset will automatically reboot. When it reach the home screen, it will officially run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Aside from the new OS update, this release will also make your handset little bit faster. At least that is what LG has been told to us. Not to mention that the update is also packed with new video editor, faster image gallery, and improved video recording quality.

The International version of LG Thrill 4G, the LG Optimus 3D, is already confirmed to receive Android 4.0 ICS update. Still, we don’t have any information if similar OS will come to Thrill 4G. But we believe that AT&T will roll it out soon when it is finally available for it’s GSM sibling.

LG Thrill 4G was released in the middle of last year. It is currently powered by TI OMAP 4430 chipset, which consist of 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 CPU and 512MB RAM. This phone posses 8GB internal data storage, but you can expand it up to 32GB using the available microSD card slot. In terms of display, this phone sports 4.3 inch screen with 3D capability and 480 x 800 pixels resolution, quite small for today’s standard. You can use the 3D ability to record or capture a nice video and photo. On the back side, lies a 5.0 megapixels rear shutter, while on the front, you can find the VGA web camera for video call purpose.
