Google Might Develop 7 Inch Android Tablet to Challenge Kindle Fire
It seems like everyone is currently aim for Amazon’s Kindle Fire throne. There’s lot of rumors saying that Apple will release the smaller version of iPad 3 to set a direct competition with Kindle. Now, it is Google that come out with similar idea.
According to Digitimes, the giant search company is currently develop a 7 inch tablet that will be priced less than $200 (Kindle Fire‘s current price tag). This device will be available in the market somewhere around March or April. Please note that this is completely a speculation. Google was never told the press that they will come out with such device like that. Plus, there isn’t any kind of evidence that can sparks our faith. We haven’t receive something like leaked or rendered images until now.
But regarding of android tablet issue, Google is currently develop a new tablet indeed. Google’s chairman, Eric Schmidt, told us that within 6 months we can expect android tablet with highest quality available in the market.
MG Siegler, columnist at TechCrunch, said that DigiTimes report and Eric Schmidt’s statement are not related and can’t be related in any way. He said that it is impossible for Google to build a great tablet with cheap price. Certainly not if the company won’t loose lot of money on deal, he added.
But this is where it’s get interesting. Initial report said that Amazon is currently loose $2.70 for each Kindle Fire unit sold. This lost money then were covered by Kindle’s users, which is certainly buy lot of apps and contents from Amazon store. Not forget to mention users that take advantage from Amazon cloud service.
However, same strategy aren’t applicable for Google. They’re not a retailer company and most of their business are related to android’s advertising. But who knows. We haven’t see any android tablet that can break iPad domination. So maybe it is the perfect time to take a radical steps.
