Verizon Challenge Kindle Fire With $199.99 Motorola Xoom 4G LTE
Kindle Fire is seems to become the best seller android tablet with its million unit of sales. But Amazon need to put some attention to Verizon, as the big red carrier is plan to release an android tablet that capable of taking the Kindle Fire’s throne.
Verizon started to sell Motorola Xoom 4G LTE for $199.99 on some contract agreement. They also offer discount for some of their android device on November 28, as part of the carrier’s Cyber Monday campaign.
Back on October 13, Xoom 4G LTE was priced at $499.99 on it’s first release in US. The technical specification is quite similar to it’s predecessors, only that this one feature Long Term Evolution technology. This is mean that your internet speed will be 10 times faster than 3G network.
The tablet feature 10.1 inch screen size and 1 GHz dual-core processors. It also has dual camera, each packed on the rear and front side of the device. On the rear-side you’ll find the 5 megapixels camera. While the 2 megapixels front-facing camera is specially made for video call purpose.
Motorola Xoom 4G LTE is currently run on Android 3.2 Honeycomb, the last tablet optimized Android OS before Google finally release their latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
It is reported that Verizon and Motorola are only manage to sold 200.000 units on their last quarter. So the $199.99 price could be their strategy to offload as many tablet as they can. Plus, compared to Amazon Kindle Fire, that price will make some great competition. On the same occasion, Verizon also offer Droid Incredible 2 for free on two years contract. While with $49.99 only, you can own LG Revolution or Pantech Breakout on the same two years deal. The company also lower their data plan pricing. For $30 per month, you can now has 4GB data usage.
