Five Android Office Suite Application

Android market offer lot of application to help your daily office work. These kind of application will allow you to open or edit popular format such as excel, word or powerpoint, etc. But talk about application that really suit your full need of office task, then we come to main top five apps such as Documents To Go, OfficeSuite Pro, Quickoffice Pro, Smart Office and ThinkFree Office Mobile. All of these application are paid apps. Our main goal is to explain the advantage of these apps based on three aspect. How easy to edit a document? How is the user interface? and Does it encounter some bugs or errors while open Microsoft standard office format?.

First, the Documents To Go. This one is quite easy to use, go to Android virtual keyboard to enter text or simply tap Android phone menu to open the tool bar. Unfortunately, this apps won’t load embedded image in .DOCX format. The embedded image in .DOC format is loaded correctly though.

Documents To Go Presentation is simply offer plain white background with simple selection of text insertion and animation. The program succesfully open .ppt and .pptx format, but this isn’t what you prefer if you want to make really good presentation.

Same as the spreadsheet apps that only offer standard grid sheet. You can create chart but this apps won’t load the chart or other graphics embedded in .XLS or .XLSX format. There’s no other spectaculer feature that offered by Document to Go. No pinch or zoom function to easily view your document to suit your need.

OfficeSuite Pro 5 come in second place. This application support several mobile OS such as BlackBerry OS, iOS or Palm Phone OS. They also come with wide-range selection of dictionary modules, from various foreign language to medical terminology.

You’ll be able to open your Google Docs account, but the apps won’t display the folder you already created. It will simply show all of your collections in a single file list. This will be difficult if you want to search certain file name. But this apps come with fine user interface. Once you open your file, the bottom part of the apps will display readable zoom level of the document you just opened.

The word processor feature offer some functionality such as paragraph justification, bulleted list, font style, etc. Although it doesn’t support column format. Open your .DOC or .DOCX format, the embedded image will loaded correctly.

The spreadsheet function seems easier to use, since a single sheet from a whole spreadsheet will be displayed individually as a tab in the bottom. You just need to tap it, in order to work on a different sheet. Again, this apps won’t load chart or any other image embedded in both .XLS and XLSX format.

Third, the Quickoffice Pro. The word processor miss few essential function such as header, footer, bulleted list or paragraph alignment. But this apps will allow you to take image from your camera and insert it directly to the document that you are currently composed. Image embedded in word format are loaded correctly, but you have to zoom the view if you’re using this apps for the first time because the default view is unreadable.

The presentation function come with eight custom shape. You’ll be able to change font color or background image. Embedded image from .PPT or .PPTX are displayed correctly.

Fourth, the Smart Office. Also available on iOS and Symbian device. This apps offer beautiful user interface with it’s page-flipping feature that show your document thumbnail and display all of your document in an iTunes-like way. You can access your Google Docs account with this application.

Simply tap the thumbnail of a template to create a new document. There’s two different template in the word processor, bussiness letter and report document. While presentation only offer dark or light colored background. Spreadsheet template already include some useful function on it’s template.

This application offer good-looking user interface that surpass other Android apps so far. It also good at handling various document type and deliver fast performance.

Last one, is the ThinkFree Office Mobile. This application come with some serious advantage. Not only that you able to use your Google Docs account, the apps also offer up to 2 GB personal cloud data storage. It also come with drawing tool. You are free to draw anything you want, make some adjustment, and paste it directly to your existing document. There’s also 64 different custom shape on this tool. You can also take photo and insert it to your document.

There’s also a small keyboard icon appear in the bottom. Tap this once and you’ll pop out a QWERTY virtual keyboard or numeric keyboard if you’re working on a spreadsheet document. The word processor is support column format, but the tool bar is placed on the top side of the screen. So, it might be difficult to access it quickly with your thumb.
