5 Reason that will Make Android Fail in the Future
We have been praising Android OS all the time. Well, it is okay since this is a website about Android. However, there is nothing perfect in this world, even the most popular OS, the Android OS, has weaknesses. Here, I will describe the 5 reasons that will make Android fail in the future.
1. Too many developer versions
After Google divided the Android version into two versions, the 2.x version for smartphones and the 3.x version for tablets, It becomes harder for developers to make different versions of their programs. Along with the outdated 1.5 and 1.6 versions, it makes Android has eight versions, the 1.5, 1.6, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3-2.3.2, 2.3.3-2.3.4, 3.0, and 3.1. It means that developers must make eight versions if they want their programs available for all Android devices.
2. Too many OEM versions
Well, it does make sense if every OEM insists on putting their own particular programs to each phone. You can see that example on the Android 2.2 on Motorola Droid 2 and Android 2.2 on Samsung Galaxy Pro. Even though those two Android smartphones run on the same version of Android, the Android 2.2, they are quite different in many points, such as the user interface. In other words, the same hardware doesn’t always work with Android on the exact same model.
3. Still not open enough
Google decided not to open-source the Android 3.x source code. Well, this was surprising, since at the early time of Android, the Android OS was praised as an open-source OS. This means that only certain developers can develop the 3.x version of Android. It also means that it will take far longer time to develop the Android 3.x.
4. Security Holes
Well, Android may be quick in solving malware problems. However, it is quite bad in preventing malware problems. We can see the proof from the articles that appear almost everyday about malware. As I said in my previous post, this is the risk of an open-source OS.
5. Pricing
It won’t be exaggerating if I say that Android is an escape of iOS. It means that for someone who cannot afford an iOS device, they can grab an Android device as an alternative. Well, it is not exactly true, since there are many Android devices with prices as high as iOS devices. It shouldn’t be like that because Android was made from the start to be affordable. Luckily, there are some low-end Android devices with affordable prices and trust me, most of those affordable Android devices have large number of sales.
So, will you still say that Android is the best OS after reading this fact? Well, it IS the best OS. However, if the Android OS doesn’t make any better change, it will be possible that the Android OS won’t last long.
